What creative career path should you take? A step-by-step guide

Know you want to have a creative career but don't know what role is right for you? The Ikigai framework is a great tool to use to gain clarity on your career direction.

In this blog post we explore how you can identify your 'Ikigai' and how you can use this to build a fulfilling career.

Most people will speak about finding your dream job and pursuing a career you enjoy but what if you don’t know where to start?

Over 70% of students don’t know what career they want to pursue and 78% worry that they won’t make the right choice.

It feels like a lot of pressure.

The problem is, often when we are in education, we have only been exposed to a limited number of job titles and potential career paths.

If one of those doesn’t feel like the right fit then it’s natural to feel lost.

When I was in my last few years of university, I discovered the concept of IKAGI and it completely changed the game for me.

It even made me change my university course.

After originally starting out wanting a job in the fashion industry, I realised it didn’t align with the lifestyle I wanted or the social impact I wanted to have with my work.

I started exploring a new career path and realised why my original goal wasn’t bringing me joy.

The IKAGI framework combines four different factors that are the key to a fulfilling career.

This includes - What you Love, What you are good at, What the world needs and What you can be paid for.

Going back to basics and thinking about your career in this way will steer your towards the career path you want.

Your career should be something you enjoy. It should be challenging and exciting.

It may take time to find the job that aligns with your IKAGI but it is a great place to start when navigating your career path.

And if you can’t find your dream job, why not create your own by trying out freelancing or starting your own business.
