Use Multiple Social Media Platforms
Don’t be afraid to use different platforms. When I promoted my podcast, I used Instagram, TikTok, X, and LinkedIn to get the word out. But remember, quality over quantity - make sure your posts are valuable.
It’s okay to repurpose content across different platforms, but don’t use the same strategy everywhere. For example, reels are great for Instagram, but not for LinkedIn. Tailor each post to fit the platform’s unique audience and style.
Here’s what tends to work best for me:
LinkedIn: Professional insights, career stories, and creative industry discussions in long-form. My favourite professional platform!
X: Short, snappy content, engaging threads, and trending topics.
Pinterest: Visually appealing posts and infographics featuring how-to guides and tutorials. I loveeee scrolling on Pinterest - don’t underestimate it’s power!
TikTok: Short, engaging videos with behind-the-scenes or educational content.
Instagram: Aesthetic visuals and short-form videos, and don’t forget about stories - they’re great for personal or business updates. (Stories are my personal fave to post… and to watch!)
Create a Social Media Strategy
If you want to grow your business, a social media strategy is essential. Without it, you’re just posting randomly and hoping something sticks. A solid plan helps you set clear goals, whether it’s growing your follower count, driving traffic to your website, or increasing sales.
Know who you’re talking to! Understanding your audience is key to creating content that resonates. When you’re consistent in your posts - whether it’s through visuals or messaging - your audience will recognise and trust your brand. Plus, with a strategy, you can track what’s working and adjust as you go.
Engage with Your Audience
Growing your social media and your business go hand-in-hand, and engagement is one of the easiest ways to grow. Here are a few ways to build connections with your audience:
Follow other creatives
Reply to stories
Collaborate with other creators
Share your day-to-day life
Use polls and question boxes in stories
Like and comment on other posts
Reshare content
Ask questions in your captions or stories
Engaging with your audience in these ways will help you build a community, and as that grows, so does your business.
Use Social Media Ads (If You Can Afford It)
If you have the budget, social media ads are a fantastic way to reach more people - especially those who haven’t found you yet. Ads let you target specific audiences based on their interests, location, and behaviour, which puts your content in front of people already likely to be interested.
Whether your budget is big or small, ads can help promote sales, boost popular posts, or drive traffic to your website. The best part? You get instant results through analytics, so you can see what’s working and adjust as needed.
Be Authentic and Utilise Your Personal Brand
The biggest piece of advice I can give: Be yourself. The content that has always performed best for me is when I’m real and transparent. Sharing your struggles and being honest makes you more relatable to your audience. People are much more likely to invest in you and your business when they feel they’re connecting with a real person.

Stay Consistent
Consistency is key to growing your business on social media. When you show up regularly, people start to recognise and trust your brand. It’s like building a relationship - if you only pop in every now and then, it’s easy to be forgotten. But when you consistently share valuable content, people look forward to seeing what you post, and that’s where engagement starts to take off.
Personally, my social accounts always grow when I stick to a consistent posting schedule, often daily. Creating a content calendar helps me stay on track, laying out what to post, when, and on which platform.
Plus, consistency helps you beat the algorithms. The more you post, the more the platform boosts your content to a wider audience. Over time, this consistency leads to a loyal following and hopefully more customers.
By following these tips, you can use social media to build your brand, connect with your audience, and ultimately grow your business.
